About Francisca Nunes
I am a Portuguese mixed media artist and educator working at the intersection of botanical printmaking and creative process.
My work is rooted in monoprinting, eco-printing and eco-dyeing on paper and fabric. I am interested in surface, in layering, in the traces left behind when plant and material meet.
I do not see botanical printing as decoration.
I see it as a way of building visual matter.
Where It Began
Before becoming a full-time artist, I trained as a biologist and worked as a biology teacher for 21 years. I also guided visitors through the Botanical Garden of Coimbra, sharing the language of plants long before I translated it into print.
That scientific formation shaped the way I approach creativity. Observation comes first. Process follows. Technique serves intention.
Years of studying plant structures, natural systems and ecological relationships deeply influenced how I see surface, layering and transformation in my artistic work.
Over time, I noticed that many artists learn beautiful techniques but struggle to build coherence. They create isolated pieces without a clear sense of direction.
That is why my work is not only about teaching techniques.
It is about building structure.
The Ecossystem
I am the creator of Printed Nature, a structured program dedicated to mastering botanical printmaking processes with clarity and depth.
I founded the Flowers Magic Art Fest, a 20-day international online event that has become a global gathering point for botanical and mixed media artists.
The Wild – Creative Lab is my seasonal membership space where artists continue evolving their work through guided projects and creative cycles inspired by nature.
